Thursday, 19 July 2012

‘Worsening drought in the United States has pushed grain prices to new highs as crops are withering and the temperatures are rising.
The drought in the US Midwest, which is the country’s worst in 25 years, hit maize crop particularly hard, US Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said on Wednesday, AFP reported. The US is the world’s biggest producer of corn and soybeans as well as a top food exporter.’

US President Barack Obama quietly signed his name to an Executive Order on Friday, allowing the White House to control all private communications in the country in the name of national security.
President Obama released his latest Executive Order on Friday, July 6, a 2,205-word statement offered as the “Assignment of National Security and Emergency Preparedness Communications Functions.” And although the president chose not to commemorate the signing with much fanfare, the powers he provides to himself and the federal government under the latest order are among the most far-reaching yet of any of his executive decisions.
“The Federal Government must have the ability to communicate at all times and under all circumstances to carry out its most critical and time sensitive missions,” the president begins the order. “Survivable, resilient, enduring and effective communications, both domestic and international, are essential to enable the executive branch to communicate within itself and with: the legislative and judicial branches; State, local, territorial and tribal governments; private sector entities; and the public, allies and other nations.”

If you believe in liberty, the U.S. government now considers you a terror suspect
July 10, 2012
(NaturalNews) In this season of Independence, it’s important – and sad – to note how far we’ve come from our nation’s founding, where brave, insightful men laid everything on the line just a couple of centuries ago in an all-or-nothing effort to birth the greatest, most successful, free country in the history of the earth.
Today, holding dear such values as freedom and liberty will get you put on a terrorist list. Welcome to America 2012.
A new study funded by the Department of Homeland Security, using your tax dollars, describes Americans who are “suspicious of centralized federal authority” and “reverent of individual liberty” as “extreme right-wing” terrorists.
The study, titled, “Hot Spots of Terrorism and Other Crimes in the United States, 1970-2008,” was produced by the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism at the University of Maryland – a group seeded with $12 million in start-up funding via DHS.
To give the authors their due, there was equal and appropriate mention in the Executive Summary about left-wing extremism as well, which they said “was concentrated in the 1970s and ethno-national/separatist terrorism was concentrated in the 1970s and 1980s.”

Another US Warship Arrives in Persian Gulf to Join Fifth Fleet
Sunday, 08 July 2012

‘The USS Ponce – previously slated for decommissioning – arrived at the base on Thursday, a fleet spokesman in Manama said, Reuters reported.
“Ponce’s primary mission is to support mine countermeasures operations and other missions, such as the ability to provide repair service to other deployed units,” added the spokesman, whose name was not mentioned in the report. This is the fifth US navy ship that has joined the US base in Bahrain since late June.’

European Parliament Kills Global Anti-Piracy Accord ACTA

The European Parliament on Wednesday declared its independence from a controversial global anti-piracy accord, rejecting the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement.
The vote, 478-39, means the deal won’t come into effect in European Union-member nations, and effectively means ACTA is dead.
Its fate was also uncertain in the United States. Despite the Obama administration signing its intent to honor the deal last year, there was a looming constitutional showdown on whether Congress, not the administration, held the power to sign on to ACTA.
Overall, not a single nation has ratified ACTA, although Australia, Canada, Japan, Morocco, New Zealand, Singapore and South Korea last year signed their intent to do so. The European Union, Mexico and Switzerland, the only other governments participating in ACTA’s creation, had not signed their intent to honor the plan.

Merck’s Deceptive New Entertainment Product Campaign Pushes Drugs Like Candy on Young Children
Wednesday, 04 July 2012 07:50

‘The same multinational drug company responsible for thrusting the Gardasil vaccine on masses of young boys and girls is now targeting children with a deceptive new advertising campaign that likens allergy medication to candy.
Adweek and others are reporting that Merck & Co. has leeched itself onto a promotional campaign for the upcoming Dreamworks film Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted, a move that has prompted the Public Health Advocacy Institute (PHAI) and several other advocacy groups to file a complaint with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
Packaging for Claritin allergy medication apparently now features characters from the Madagascar 3 movie emblazoned right on the label. The labels also entice children with offers of free stickers, downloadable Madagascar 3 interactive games, popcorn containers, and other knick-knacks.’
