Protesters Successfully Shut Down California Monsanto Office

‘A recent two-day protest in Northern California against genetically-modified organisms (GMOs) led to the complete shutdown of a Monsanto corporate office for an entire day, according to reports. On Friday, March 16, 2012, activists affiliated with the Global Days of Action to Shut Down Monsanto began rallying in front of the Davis, Calif., office of Monsanto, where they held up banners, gave speeches, and set up tents in front of the Monsanto building on Fifth Street, which caused the biotech giant to shutter its operations.
“In the course of the two-day event, activists held up signs, gave speeches to inform and inspire each other and solidify the movement, drafted a resolution about Monsanto with many proposed solutions to be presented to the California legislature, celebrated each other and went “freeway blogging” – displaying a large hand made banner that said, “Shut Down Monsanto” on the Pole Line Road overpass over I-80,” writes Mark Graham of Food Freedom. “Thousands of drivers were shown this message.”‘

‘A shocking new video shows Saudi and Emirati forces firing indiscriminately at a crowd of unarmed youth protesting against the autocratic US-backed Bahraini government.
The attack took place after Friday prayers in the Shia village of Duraz, about 15 kilometres west of the capital, Manama, where the US Navy Fifth Fleet is based with some 4,000 personnel.
All three Gulf states are key allies of the US, with Washington supplying each with billions of dollars worth of military equipment. The three autocratic regimes have also been crucial supporters of the US and NATO’s nearly five-month military assault on Libya – allegedly conducted to defend the human rights of the Libyan people.’
N Ireland Police Clash with Protesters

‘Crowds, mostly Catholic youth, in Ardoyne area in Belfast dominated by Roman Catholics clashed with the Orange Order, a pro-British Protestant brotherhood whose yearly July 12 demonstrations celebrate 17th-century military triumphs over Catholics, AP reported on Tuesday.
During the confrontations which lasted for several hours, dozens of police officers received minor injuries while trying to control the burning of some cars which the protesters had set ablaze.
Some officers were also injured when crowds of nationalists threw petrol bombs and masonry at them.’

‘According to media reports, the current peaceful strike across Britain is just moving to a harsh condition, as the police have begun clashing with anti-government protesters.
The Metropolitan police are once more exercising their kettling tactics to halt the industrial action, which was strongly condemned by Prime Minister David Cameron and other MPs, the Daily Telegraph reported. Hundreds of police forces are reportedly using the kettling tactics to break up the groups of protesters in Whitehall.
The protesters said that they were having a peaceful demonstration expressing their opposition to the crippling cuts imposed by the Tory-led government.’
