Human Rights Disaster Unfolding in Libya

Monday, 23 July 2012

‘Nine months after the U.S./NATO-led overthrow of the Muammar Gaddafi government in Libya, the country remains entrenched in violence and disorder; human rights abuses are rampant.

In fact, according to Nasser al-Hawary of the Libyan Observatory for Human Rights, “The human rights situation in Libya now is far worse than under the late dictator Muammar Gaddafi.” (Inter Press Service, July 14) This statement is telling, especially given that its source is a political opponent of the former government.

The National Transition Council, the pro-imperialist governing body in Libya, has been unable to establish any authority over the country. Armed militias, previously employed by the NTC to fight against Gaddafi’s supporters, continue to roam the country, looting villages and engaging in abductions, killings and torture.’

US, Israel Plotting to Overthrow Assad: Report

Friday, 20 July 2012

‘The New York Times reported on Wednesday that US officials worked on contingency plans for a collapse of the Syrian government, focusing particularly on the chemical weapons that “Syria is thought to possess.”

The talks focused on whether Israel might move to “destroy Syrian weapons facilities,” two US administration officials said.

An unnamed White House official also said US President Barack Obama’s national security adviser, Thomas Donilon, was in Israel over the weekend to discuss the Syrian unrest.’

Obama’s Justice Department Rushes to the Rescue of LIBOR Criminals

Friday, 20 July 2012

‘The Justice Department has launched a flurry of phony investigations in the LIBOR scandal, with the ultimate aim of protecting the banks from the consequences of their crimes. That’s the same role the Obama administration played in the “robo-signing” scandal: immunizing the criminals. In the LIBOR scheme, Attorney General Holder and his crew will try to shield the banksters “from legal action by a host of other government agencies and, ultimately, from the global universe of parties that have been harmed by the bankster’s schemes.’

HSBC’s Criminal Clients

Thursday, 19 July 2012

‘And you thought bankers fixing interest rates and playing games with mortgage-backed securities was bad? How about laundering money for Mexican drug dealers, the Russian mafia and Mideast terrorists?

OK, if we’re talking about the potential economic impact on the average person, the interest rate and mortgage shenanigans are really bad, probably more so than the money laundering apparently brokered on a massive scale by the huge international bank HSBC.

But even so, the new report from the Senate’s Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations detailing HSBC’s multiple failings over the past years is quite the doozy. It reads like a treatment for a villain in a James Bond thriller that never got greenlighted because it was too unrealistic. We could accept getting in bed with the Russians — but the drug dealers and the terrorists as well? That’s overkill.’

More Than 100,000 Demand End to Nuclear Power in Japan

Tuesday, 17 July 2012

‘Demonstrator’s crowded into Yoyogi Park on Monday, Japan’s national day and the hottest day of the year, in the largest anti-nuclear rally since the Fukushima disaster 16 months ago.

Noda has come under increasing pressure amid growing public distrust of nuclear power after last year’s Fukushima disaster raised concerns about the safety of atomic power. Last month, Noda ordered the reactivation of the reactors three and four at Oi power plant in western Japan after securing support from the mayor of Oi and the governor of Fukui prefecture, where Oi is located.’

Par:AnoIA: Anonymous Launches WikiLeaks-esque Site for Data Dumps

By Quinn Norton July 13, 2012

Par:AnoIA

Frustrated by the lack of impact from Anonymous’ otherwise famous hacks and data dumps, and the slow pace of material coming out of WikiLeaks, participants in the Anonymous collective have launched a WikiLeaks-like site called Par:AnoIA (Potentially Alarming Research: Anonymous Intelligence Agency).

Paranoia, which debuted in March, is a new publishing platform built by Anonymous to host Anonymous data leaks that’s trying to find a solution to a problem that plagues news sites, government transparency advocates, and large-website owners everywhere: how to organize more data than any human could possibly read.

The site marks a departure from the groups’ previous modus operandi, where it would publicly drop the documents, make them available in a torrent — usually as a zip file, and then move on. By contrast, the goal of Paranoia is to curate and present content to a hopefully interested public.

Senate Votes To Give Zionist, Racist Israel Another $9 Billion

July 16, 2012

‘The U.S. Senate passed their version on Friday June 29, 2012. Known in the Senate as S.2165, the measure guaranteed an astonishing $9 billion dollars in loans to Israel (plus all fees and interest!) in addition to giving “military assistance- stockpiles of defense articles” valued at $200 million for 2013 and $200 million for 2014.

Boxer praised passage of the bill, stating “I am so pleased that the Senate moved quickly to pass this important bill, which reaffirms the important bond between the United States and Israel and helps ensure that Israel has the necessary tools to defend itself in this time of dynamic change in the Middle East.”‘

July 12, 2012 1 comment

12 July 2012

‘Thousands of Spanish miners and their supporters flooded the streets of Madrid in a second day of mass protests, just hours after the country’s leader announced a nationwide tax hike.

Workers marched up the city’s main avenue, wearing hardhats and carrying walking sticks, to protest outside the Industry Ministry. Many walked for nearly three weeks in the blazing sun before finally reaching Madrid.’
