For many, photographs from the World War II have only been seen in grainy black and white.

But now, new colour images have emerged that show the full horror of the destruction inflicted by Nazi bombings across London.

The powerful images were released to mark the 70th anniversary of the launch of Winston Churchill’s ‘V for Victory’ campaign on July 19, 1941.

Life goes on: Workers clear the rubble from a building decimated in a heavy German air raid bombing during the Battle of BritainClearing up: Workers remove rubble from a building decimated in a heavy German air raid during the Blitz. The genesis for the campaign began in January of that year when Belgian minister Victor de Laveleye suggested that his country uses the V as a rallying symbol. This was then adopted by the BBC and then Winston Churchill began to use the term later that year and waved the V sign with his right hand.

Other European leaders soon followed Churchill’s lead.

The Prime Minister’s campaign was launched after the Luftwaffe launched its sustained bombing of cities across Britain. Unsurprisingly, London bore the brunt of the raids between between September 7, 1940 and May 10, 1941.

The capital suffered 76 continuous nights of attacks which obliterated more than one million homes, while across Britain some 40,000 people were killed.

But even after eight months of bombing, British industrial production was never seriously hampered and the war effort continued to operate and expand.

Despite the terrifying raids by the Luftwaffe, they attacks failed to breaks the spirit of the British people. People pressed on with their lives and in one of these extraordinary images a man can be seen in a park calmly reading a book while a barrage balloon hovers close by.

Did San Francisco Police Kill An Innocent Man Over A $2 Bus Fair? (warning this article is very graphic)

July 19, 2011 1 comment

By David Noble writer for End the Lie

In Bayview Hunters Point, San Francisco early Saturday evening a teenager who ran from police over a bus fair was shot as many as 10 times in the back and neck, leaving him lying in a growing pool of blood writhing in pain, as cops trained their guns on him according  to witnesses. Police had been doing inspections to make sure everybody had paid their fairs when they stopped a 19 year old man who suddenly bolted.

According to police the suspect shot at the officers as he ran, they returned fire, fatally wounding him but this was contradicted by angry witnesses who claimed that the teenager had not fired at the pursuing police officers. Charles Walton a San Francisco resident claimed that an officer had went onto one knee taking up a firing position before opening fire on the teenager. Henry Taylor another resident stated that the gunfire had only went one way with the cops shooting at the teenager.

Extra police had to be called in to control an angry crowd as hundreds of angry residents gathered in the plaza at the Oakdale/Palou light rail stop. The crowd continued to protest into the early hours expressing outrage at the shooting with even more police wearing riot gear being called in for crowd control. .

Police searched the area including rooftops but would not reveal if any weapon had been found.

What made this incident even worse as can be seen in the video below is that the police showed no interest in helping the badly injured teenager until he stopped moving as he lay bleeding out on the sidewalk. Eventually he was put on a gurney and taken to hospital where he later died.

Police say that at least one of the officers fired shots and that they are on payed routine leave as an investigation is carried out with the department of Internal affairs , the DA and the Office of citizens complaints are all involved in the investigation.

Questions must be asked whether the teenager could have been saved if medical help had been more forthcoming. Regardless of what really happened the sad facts are that a young mans life has ended over an unpaid fair. While I recognize that police have a dangerous job questions have to be asked about how they go about it with a growing number of innocent victims being shot and killed as police seem to be moving to a shoot first policy. Time will tell if this is another one of those incidents.

Russia Refuses To Recognize Libyan Rebels…..

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says his country refuses to recognize the rebel National Transitional Council as Libya’s legitimate government. He says Moscow is still ready to deal with the Benghazi-based council as a side for negotiations to determine Libya’s future.

Sergei Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister, said, “It means once again that those who declare recognition of the Libyan rebels stand fully on the side of one political force in a civil war which is ongoing in Libya. It means once again that the supporters of such a decision are the supporters of the policy of isolation. In this case, of isolation of those forces that represent Tripoli.”

Intense and Epic Gun Battle, Souk Al-Thulatha,(Zlitan, Libya) July 11, 2011

(Graphic)reason: “dead rebel soldier lies dead”

This is one of the more intense gunfights i’ve seen in the last few days, very good vid,but the description was in Arabic.

It looks to be Rebel forces advancing on a Gaddafi position,a lot of incoming and outgoing fire.

Also includes dead rebel on the ground,so it’s (mildly graphic)

at the end is seen to what i believe to be a Gaddafi flag being torn down.

Amazing footage.

It seems that wordpress accepts embedded vids only from youtube and google, so here is the link
