It can now be reported that the four nuclear reactors in Japan (one facing a meltdown) had their computer system hacked by a NSA computer virus, “Stuxnet”, one month before the 9.0 – 9.1 earthquake and tsunami aka a meteorological “black op” hit the nation of Japan.

“A computer virus designed to attack servers isolated from the Internet, such as at power plants, has been confirmed on 63 personal computers in Japan since July, according to major security firm Symantec Corp. The virus does not cause any damage online, but once it enters an industrial system, it can send a certain program out of control. After Stuxnet finds its way onto an ordinary computer via the Internet, it hides there, waiting for a USB memory stick to be connected to the computer, when it transfers itself to the memory stick. When the USB device is then connected to a computer linked to an isolated server, it can enter the system and take control of it.
As computers that harbor Stuxnet do not operate strangely, the virus can be transferred to a memory stick inadvertently. According to the security company, the virus is designed to target a German-made program often used in systems managing water, gas and oil pipelines. The program is used at public utilities around the world, including in Japan. The virus could cause such systems to act erratically, and it could take months to restore them to normal.”

BEIRUT (Reuters) – Syrian President Bashar al-Assad pledged on Monday reforms within months to address a wave of protests against his rule, but blamed saboteurs for the unrest and warned that no deal could be reached with gunmen.
Assad said a national dialogue would start soon to review new legislation including laws on parliamentary elections, the media, and allowing political parties other than his Baath Party, as well as look at possible changes to the constitution.
Activists and analysts dismissed his promises, saying they failed to engage the demands of protesters who for three months have defied a fierce military crackdown in rallying for greater freedoms, posing the gravest challenge to his 11-year tenure.
After his speech, delivered at Damascus University, demonstrators hit the streets of the capital’s suburbs and in the coastal city of Latakia, activists and residents said.
“The regime has no realization that this is a mass street movement demanding freedom and dignity,” opposition figure Walid al-Bunni said. “Assad has not said anything to satisfy the families of the 1,400 martyrs or the national aspiration of the Syrian people for the country to become a democracy.”
The United States and European Union have already imposed sanctions on Assad and other senior officials. EU foreign ministers said on Monday they were preparing to expand the number of targets of sanctions.
Addressing the economic impact of the unrest, Assad urged Syrians to help restore confidence in their economy.
“The most dangerous thing we face in the next stage is the weakness or collapse of the Syrian economy, and a large part of the problem is psychological,” he said.
In just his third speech since unrest began in March, Assad appeared tense as he pledged to pursue a national dialogue on reforms and held out the prospect of expanding a recent amnesty, but made clear he would not be leaving as protesters demand.
“We have to distinguish between (those who have legitimate demands) and saboteurs. The saboteurs are a small group that tried to exploit the kind majority of the Syrian people to carry out their many schemes,” he said.
No political solution was possible with people carrying weapons, he said.
As Syrian forces swept through the northwestern border region with Turkey, blocking refugees fleeing the military crackdown, Assad called on the 10,000 who have already crossed the frontier to come home.
“There are those who give them the impression that the state will exact revenge. I affirm that is not true. The army is there for security,” he said in the speech.
A committee on national dialogue is to invite more than 100 personalities in the next few days to discuss framework and mechanism of the discussions.
Assad said he hoped the package of reforms should be ready by September if parliamentary elections went ahead as scheduled in two months’ time, which will be decided during the dialogue.
“The parliamentary elections, if they are not postponed, will be held in August. We will have a new parliament by … August and I think we can say that we are able to accomplish this package (of reforms) … in September,” he said.
Lebanese analyst Oussama Safa said Assad’s reform pledges were “too little too late”, adding that for Syria’s opposition, Assad had lost legitimacy.

The violence so close to its border has challenged Turkey’s foreign policy of “zero problems with neighbors” under which it has befriended the Middle East’s entrenched autocratic rulers while presenting itself as a champion of democracy.
A senior Turkish official said on Sunday that Assad had less than a week to start implementing long-promised political reforms before foreign intervention begins.
Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini, speaking ahead of the EU meeting, said Assad had a last chance to “concretely start reforms”, but added that many people were losing hope.
“So far we have been looking at horrible crimes … Police shooting civilians in the streets … This is absolutely unacceptable,” Frattini told reporters.
Faced with troops firing live ammunition, Syrian protesters have taken to venting their anger against Assad at night.
Demonstrations erupted overnight in the cities of Hama, Homs, Latakia, Deir al-Zor, the town of Madaya near the Lebanese border, several suburbs of the capital Damascus and in Albu Kamal on the border with Iraq, witnesses and activists said.
Authorities blame the violence on armed groups and Islamists, backed by foreign powers. Syria has barred most international journalists from entering the country, making it difficult to verify accounts from activists and officials.
In 1982, President Hafez al-Assad, Bashar’s late father, crushed a revolt led by the Muslim Brotherhood, killing around 30,000 people in Hama.
However, Bashar al-Assad said on Monday that it was time to turn the page on the “black period of the 80s”.
Syrian rights groups say at least 1,300 civilians have been killed and 10,000 people detained since March.
The Syrian Observatory for human rights has said more than 300 soldiers and police have also been killed. Other rights campaigners said dozens of security personnel had been killed by loyalist troops for refusing to shoot at unarmed civilians.
Even so, President Dmitry Medvedev practically ruled out crucial Russian support for any U.N. resolution condemning Assad’s crackdown on pro-democracy protesters.
In an interview published in the Financial Times on Monday, Medvedev criticised the way Western countries had interpreted U.N. Resolution 1973 on Libya which he said turned it into “a scrap of paper to cover up a pointless military operation”.
“I would not like a Syrian resolution to be pulled off in a similar manner,” he added.

Nearly 3,000 victims of 9/11 don’t show up as dead in Social Security records
WASHINGTON — A New York congresswoman who represents Manhattan wants answers to why nearly 3,000 victims of the 9/11 terrorists attacks weren’t reported in the Social Security Administration’s official list of deceased Americans.
Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-N.Y., said her staff started making inquiries after the errors in the federal Death Master File (DMF) were detected by Scripps Howard News Service. The file is a public record intended to protect families of the deceased from identity theft and other types of fraud.
“While nearly 3,000 individuals were killed on Sept. 11th, the list does not show an increase in numbers from the typical DMF daily average,” Maloney said. “A sampling of those names did not yield any matches in the DMF and confirms their apparent absence.”
She said her staff has contacted the Social Security Administration, the New York State Department of Health and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, only to receive “conflicting answers as to why there is a lack of reporting on this matter.”
So Maloney is asking Social Security Commissioner Michael Astrue and the public health commissioners for the state of New York and New York City, jointly, to account for the reporting error.
“Would you explain why individuals killed on 9/11 would be missing from the DMF?” Maloney asked in her letters.
Nova Scotia Marijuana “Cancer Cure” Grower Rick Simpson
AMHERST – Just because some “idiotic law” says he has to won’t stop Rickey Simpson from treating his patients suffering from illnesses such as cancer with cannabis oil. “People have proven to me once again they have total lack of common sense. There’s something wrong with them,” Simpson said outside the courtroom yesterday after a jury found him guilty to one count each of possession of less than 30 grams of cannabis marijuana, possession of less than three kilograms of tetrahydrocannabinol for the purpose of trafficking and unlawful production of cannabis marijuana.
“I thought the jury would see this for what it is and that they would welcome this medicine.” When discussing an adjournment for sentencing, Simpson told Justice Felix Cacchione to put him in jail that day. “It may be better to lock me up right now. As soon as I get home I’m going to treat my patients. I’m going to grow that plant until the day I die, so I might as well be put in jail today. I can’t stop in the middle of (treatment). People’s lives are at stake here.”
In response, Justice Cacchione told Simpson that when a guilty verdict is found, bail is most often times revoked. He did, however, tell Simpson he wasn’t going to revoke his bail. “You have complied with all your bail terms, so for that reason, I am not going to,” said Justice Cacchione, adding that Simpson has until 4pm Wednesday to visit the parole board office to set up a time for a pre-sentence report.
AdvertisementThe Crown’s office went by way of summary conviction to the first charge and indictment by the second two. Simpson could be facing a fine as a sentence to the simple possession charge. The trafficking charge could carry a maximum sentence of five years in prison, while the maximum sentence of unlawful production is seven years. Crown attorney Monica McQueen didn’t have much a reaction to the verdict, and couldn’t speculate on the sentencing recommendation the Crown would be submitting to the courts.
Simpson’s sentencing has been adjourned for a pre-sentence report upon Justice Cacchione’s request, who also wants to see the crown’s position on sentencing. Simpson will return to court for sentencing at 12pm on November 30, 2007, his 58th birthday.

Nova Scotia Marijuana “Cancer Cure” Court Case Turns Into Constitutional Concern

Amherst, Nova Scotia – A Maccan-area man who says marijuana cures cancer admitted Thursday he grew marijuana on his property, turned it into an oil and distributed the oil free of charge to people fighting a variety of diseases. However, Ricky Logan Simpson, 57, told the jury hearing his Nova Scotia Supreme Court trial on three drug charges that he should not be considered a criminal because the laws forbidding the possession, growing and distribution of marijuana are unconstitutional.
Mr. Simpson faces charges of possessing less than 30 grams of marijuana, possessing less than three kilograms of cannabis resin for the purpose of trafficking and unlawfully producing marijuana. The charges were laid following an Aug. 3, 2005, raid on his Little Forks Road property that netted 1,190 plants with a street value of between $400,000 and $800,000.
Rick Simpson leaves court”What am I doing in this court, and what right does the RCMP have to terrorize the public with a law that does not exist?” Mr. Simpson, who is representing himself, told the jury during his testimony. He read his entire testimony from an 11-page document.
He explained he first began using marijuana to treat post-concussion syndrome after prescription drugs failed. The marijuana “did more for me than all of the pills prescribed to me by my doctor,” he said.
A subsequent brush with skin cancer that he cured with hemp oil, and the curing effects it had on dozens of people who used his product, along with different scientific publications, convinced him that marijuana was a “miracle, cure-all drug,” he added.
He criticized his doctor for failing to get him a licence to possess and grow medicinal marijuana, saying the physician refused to even discuss the medicinal value of marijuana.
Mr. Simpson testified that he had not hidden his efforts to help people with his hemp oil. He said that over a four-year period he brought “the miracle cure of marijuana” to the attention of the police, the medical community, two different federal ministers of health, local politicians and the media.
All of them ignored him, he said. He was particularly miffed at the Canadian Cancer Society, which ignored his request to evaluate his cure for cancer. “The cancer society runs from the cure to cancer; they’re not running to cure cancer,” he said. And greedy pharmaceutical companies and physicians don’t want this cheap medication getting into the hands of people because it would hurt their bottom line, he said.
The trial is scheduled to continue Monday when the Crown presents rebuttal evidence. It is expected the jury will begin deciding Mr. Simpson’s fate next Tuesday.
