Six Steps by the IMF for a One-World Currency

‘In mainstream financial circles, the concept of a global currency is often spoken of only with an atmosphere of caution. It is approached always in hypothetical terms. It is whispered of as some far off dream; a socio-economic moon landing in the far reaches of fiscal space. Perhaps in 2015, or 2020, or maybe 2050, but certainly never just over the horizon, or right around the corner posing as an innocuous trade asset created over 40 years ago and used only on rare occasions.

Unfortunately, the development of a centralized global security representing the creation of a supranational economic body is much closer than many would care to admit…’

News of the World Phone-Hacking Whistleblower Found Dead

Tuesday, 19 July 2011 10:27

‘Sean Hoare, the former News of the World showbusiness reporter who was the first named journalist to allege that Andy Coulson was aware of phone hacking by his staff, has been found dead .

Hoare, who worked on the Sun and the News of the World with Coulson before being dismissed for drink and drugs problems, was said to have been found at his Watford home.

Hertfordshire police would not confirm his identity, but said in a statement: “At 10.40am today [Monday 18 July] police were called to Langley Road, Watford, following the concerns for the welfare of a man who lives at an address on the street. Upon police and ambulance arrival at a property, the body of a man was found. The man was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after.’

131 Children Vaccinated at Gunpoint in Malawi

Tuesday, 19 July 2011 10:32

‘About 131 children from Nsanje who fled into neighboring Mozambique during the anti measles vaccine a few months ago were vaccinated this week at gunpoint.

The children, belonging to Zion and Atumwi Churches were taken into Mozambique by their parents to hide them from officials fearing they might get vaccinated. According to Dr Medison Matchaya District Health Officer for Nsanje, medics went to vaccine the children in Nsanje under police escort.

“We were alerted that some children who were hiding in Mozambique were back in the country and we asked police to escort the health officials in order to vaccinate them and we have managed to vaccinate about 131 children,” said Matchaya.’

Explorers discover 3 billion-year-old life forms off the coast of Michigan

July 19, 2011 2 comments

Explorers discover 3 billion-year-old life forms off the coast of MichiganIn mysterious sinkholes beneath the waters of Lake Huron, scientists have been exploring strange pockets of life that shouldn’t exist on present-day Earth. The microbes researchers have found would have been perfectly comfortable on the Earth of 3 billion years ago, before we had oxygen in the atmosphere.

How did the bottom of Lake Huron get riddled with sinkholes that time forgot? Find out, and see a video of life that hasn’t existed for billions of years.

The sinkholes at the bottom of the lake are pockets of de-oxygenated water that have pooled beneath the fresh waters above. So all the creatures who live in the sinkholes might have evolved at a time on Earth when no oxygen was available. In a recent Earth magazine article about the ongoing exploration of these sinkholes, first discovered a little over a decade ago, Lindsey Doermann writes:

These pockets of water teem with microbial life similar to that found around deep ocean hydrothermal vents or beneath ice-covered Antarctic lakes, not the kinds of microorganisms normally found in our own backyards . . . Before long, the true importance of these oddities became apparent: “These ecosystems in Lake Huron are analogs of the Proterozoic,” says Bopi Biddanda, a microbial ecologist at Grand Valley State University in Michigan and one of the leaders of the sinkhole science team. “They could be windows into communities that existed 3 billion years ago.”

Though it’s possible the creatures in the sinkholes are direct descendants of creatures who lived on pre-oxygen Earth, it’s more likely that they evolved from more recent organisms to thrive in an oxygen-free ecological niche. Either way, they are the closest we’ll get to seeing life from Earth’s distant past.

But how did those sinkholes get there in the first place? As you can see from this diagram, what’s happened is that freshwater from the Earth’s surface has sunk below ground, and eventually worked its way back out beneath the lake. As the water slowly eroded the lakebed, it created sinkholes of freshwater — lakes within lakes, if you will — where anaerobic or oxygen-free ecosystems began to thrive.

Explorers discover 3 billion-year-old life forms off the coast of Michigan In this incredible video of the sinkholes, you can see the oxygen-free freshwater bubbling up from the lake bottom. All life on Earth may have once resembled these strange, algae-furred fingers reaching up from the sinkholes. It wasn’t until about 2 billion years ago that the planet began to have a significant amount of oxygen in its atmosphere. The shift to oxygen was caused by cyanobacteria like what you see in this video, who emit oxygen as part of their digestive cycle. As cyanobacteria took over ancient Earth’s seas, geologists believe that they caused the planet’s first climate disaster, killing off all the life forms that didn’t metabolize oxygen. Essentially, oxygen was a poison gas to them and made the planet unlivable. Lucky for multicellular organisms, oxygen ushered in a new era where life proliferated and diversified in dramatic ways, eventually leading to the world we live in today

Do Not Speak, Do Not Resist – Israel Rules Out Non-Violence

Tuesday, 19 July 2011 06:59

‘It was an Arab legislator who made the most telling comment to the Israeli parliament last week as it passed the boycott law, which outlaws calls to boycott Israel or its settlements in the occupied territories. Ahmed Tibi asked: “What is a peace activist or Palestinian allowed to do to oppose the occupation? Is there anything you agree to?”

The boycott law is the latest in a series of ever-more draconian laws being introduced by the far-right. The legislation’s goal is to intimidate those Israelis who have yet to bow down before the majority-rule mob.

Look out in coming days for a bill to block the work of Israeli organisations trying to protect Palestinian rights; and another draft law investing a parliamentary committee, headed by the far-right, with the power to appoint supreme court judges. The court is the only, and already enfeebled, bulwark against the right’s ascendancy.’

Pharmageddon: Prescription Drugs are Killing America’s Youth

Tuesday, 19 July 2011 07:11

‘No parent wants to lose a child, but when one dies from something that should be very preventable, the heartbreak and tragedy is compounded. Such is increasingly the case with prescription drugs – they’re killing our youth.

Sarah Shay and Savannah Kissick, of Morehead, Ky., best friends since high school, were both victims of what experts and the White House are describing as an epidemic of prescription drug deaths. Sarah died in 2006 at the tender age of 19; Savannah just three years later, at 22.

Since the medications they were using were prescribed by physicians, some experts believe they carry some sort of legitimacy. But the fact is they are being abused by young people just the same as drugs that are illegal – more so even, in some cases.’

Herman Cain to Iran: ‘If You Mess with Israel You’re Messing with the USA’

Tuesday, 19 July 2011 07:41

‘Herman Cain loves deep dish pizza, but he may love Israel more. How do I know? I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t go to war with a man who stole a pepperoni slice; but if he were president and if a country, even one with a huge army like Iran’s, caused problems with an ally like Israel, there’d be trouble.

“If you mess with Israel you’re messing with the United States of America,” the Georgia businessman laid out plainly in his “Cain Doctrine.” “Option A is, ‘Folks, we are not going to allow you to attack Israel,’ ” the GOP presidential hopeful told the Washington Times. “If they call my bluff, they already know — they will know — what Option B is,” Cain said.

The official religion in Iran just happens to be Islam. Cain took a controversial stance Sunday when he said that he felt communities, like one in Murfreesboro, Tenn., have the right to ban mosques.’

Did San Francisco Police Kill An Innocent Man Over A $2 Bus Fair? (warning this article is very graphic)

July 19, 2011 1 comment

By David Noble writer for End the Lie

In Bayview Hunters Point, San Francisco early Saturday evening a teenager who ran from police over a bus fair was shot as many as 10 times in the back and neck, leaving him lying in a growing pool of blood writhing in pain, as cops trained their guns on him according  to witnesses. Police had been doing inspections to make sure everybody had paid their fairs when they stopped a 19 year old man who suddenly bolted.

According to police the suspect shot at the officers as he ran, they returned fire, fatally wounding him but this was contradicted by angry witnesses who claimed that the teenager had not fired at the pursuing police officers. Charles Walton a San Francisco resident claimed that an officer had went onto one knee taking up a firing position before opening fire on the teenager. Henry Taylor another resident stated that the gunfire had only went one way with the cops shooting at the teenager.

Extra police had to be called in to control an angry crowd as hundreds of angry residents gathered in the plaza at the Oakdale/Palou light rail stop. The crowd continued to protest into the early hours expressing outrage at the shooting with even more police wearing riot gear being called in for crowd control. .

Police searched the area including rooftops but would not reveal if any weapon had been found.

What made this incident even worse as can be seen in the video below is that the police showed no interest in helping the badly injured teenager until he stopped moving as he lay bleeding out on the sidewalk. Eventually he was put on a gurney and taken to hospital where he later died.

Police say that at least one of the officers fired shots and that they are on payed routine leave as an investigation is carried out with the department of Internal affairs , the DA and the Office of citizens complaints are all involved in the investigation.

Questions must be asked whether the teenager could have been saved if medical help had been more forthcoming. Regardless of what really happened the sad facts are that a young mans life has ended over an unpaid fair. While I recognize that police have a dangerous job questions have to be asked about how they go about it with a growing number of innocent victims being shot and killed as police seem to be moving to a shoot first policy. Time will tell if this is another one of those incidents.

Russia Refuses To Recognize Libyan Rebels…..

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says his country refuses to recognize the rebel National Transitional Council as Libya’s legitimate government. He says Moscow is still ready to deal with the Benghazi-based council as a side for negotiations to determine Libya’s future.

Sergei Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister, said, “It means once again that those who declare recognition of the Libyan rebels stand fully on the side of one political force in a civil war which is ongoing in Libya. It means once again that the supporters of such a decision are the supporters of the policy of isolation. In this case, of isolation of those forces that represent Tripoli.”
