Bahraini Troops Attack Protesters
Thursday, 23 June 2011 07:16

‘Saudi-backed Bahraini forces have attacked an anti-government rally held in protest at the heavy prison sentences passed over to opposition activists.
Witnesses say regime forces fired tear gas and sound grenades on protesters as they were heading to the Martyr Square, formerly called Pearl Square, in the capital Manama on Wednesday. The anti-regime rally came hours after a special security court sentenced eight opposition activists to life in jail for “plotting to overthrow the government.”
The court also handed sentences of up to 15 years to 13 other activists. Seven people were sentenced in absentia.’
